Dear Amelia County Families,
We want to share an important update about the Standards of Learning (SOL) tests for reading and math. The Virginia Board of Education (VBOE) has approved new, higher passing scores starting this school year.
In the past, students needed a score of 400 to pass. Under the new expectations, students will need to meet or exceed higher “proficient” cut scores between 430 and 479 depending on the grade and subject. There is a possibility that the Virginia Board of Education will gradually increase the cut scores over a period of 4-5 years to reach the new “proficient” levels. VBOE will make its decision at their November 13th Board meeting.
